Man with Fake Rubber Stamps, Documents Remanded in Maligawatte

The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau, which conducted an investigation into a racket of preparing fake deeds for lands in Colombo with a high value has arrested a person involved in the racket with 300 fake official stamps belonging to judges, Police officers, heads of public institutions, and many other Government institutions.

The Fraud Investigation Bureau stated that this 72-year-old suspect is a resident of Maligawatte. In addition to the 300 fake seals, a passport belonging to another person, 11 driver’s licences and four national ID cards were also found in this person’s possession, Police said.

The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau says that among the forged official seals are those of police station OIC’s, judges, Courts and hospitals. Police have found fake emblems belonging to Principals, Local Authority officials, Prison officials, banks, Inland Revenue Department, Motor Traffic Department, the Land Registry, doctors, and the Railways Department. The suspect has been remanded until August9 after being produced in court.
