According to reports an adult male shot and killed himself outside of the White House early Saturday afternoon,.
Reportedly the man approached the White House’s fence on Pennsylvania Avenue, just before noon, before taking out a handgun and firing several shots.
The man was in a large crowd when he fired the gun, the Washington Post reports, citing witnesses.
“Secret Service personnel are responding to reports of a person who allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gun shot wound along the north fence line of @WhiteHouse,” the Secret Service tweeted. The District of Columbia Police Department then Tweeted that the suspect was deceased, and they were attempting to notify the next of kin. According to CNN, Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump are headed back to D.C. from Mar-a-Lago to attend the annual Gridiron Club Dinner. “We are aware of the incident,” deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said. “The President has been briefed. I refer you to the Secret Service for any more information.” No other injuries were reported.
