The Maligawatta Police informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala yesterday (14), that investigations are being conducted to arrest the suspect who stole a credit card belonging to a monk from a temple in the Maligawatta area and bought mobile phones worth around Rs.400,000 using that card.
The Maligawatta police informed the court that investigations are being carried out based on acomplaint made by Ven.Godapitiye Indrajith Thera, a resident of Bosewana Road, Maligawatta, Colombo 10. The complaint stated that the monk had obtained this credit card by including charity and aid money and that it was worth Rs. 363,756.
He said he had withdrawn Rs.5000 on February 17 and when he went to get more money on February 24 , there was no money in the card. Subsequent to calling for bank statements, the police had reported to the court that, a mobile phone worth Rs. 60,500 had been bought from the Gampaha area and another mobile phone worth Rs. 35,190 had been purchased from Nittambuwa area using this card.
