Lancaster Bible College leases space in Greenbelt, Christine Miller mourned, Murder victim Keith Massaton Watson car recovered, Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller backing away from new casino being built at National Harbor
Citybiz reports that, “Lancaster Bible College, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has leased 18,575 square feet to occupy the first floor of Patriot Business Park East, 7852 Walker Drive, Greenbelt, Maryland as part of the acquisition of the academic programs of Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary.”

We need some of the students of Lancaster Bible College to pray without ceasing over the murders taking place in the county. Keith Massaton Watson, 48, of Upper Marlboro was found dead of a gunshot wound this past Monday inside an industrial building at 8500 block of Rainswood. His stolen vehicle was recovered yesterday, Jan. 30th, in the 300 block of Hillside Terrace in Landover. The car had been abandoned and is now being processed for evidence. Our condolences to the Watson family.
Prince George’s mourns the loss of groundbreaking legislator Christine Jones. Mrs. Jones was the first African American woman elected to the Maryland General Assembly from Prince George’s County 1982 and she became the first woman to lead the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus. She came to Prince George’s in 1966 from a segregated town in Texas and went on to have a 30 year career as a teacher and make great political strides in the county. She was known to represent her constituents with ferocity and was active at the age of 83. Sounds like someone we all should honor and a legacy that needs to live on.
I didn’t know that the integration of the Maryland General Assembly was such a recent event.
From the Daily Record, “Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., D-Calvert and Prince George’s, said he wanted a casino built in southern Prince George’s County, but never wanted National Harbor to become the focus. “That was Rushern Baker’s position, my position was either or,” Miller said. “I started out saying that it had to be Rosecroft [Raceway] and then National Harbor entered into it later, and then the county executive expressed, or opined, for National Harbor, which I thought was a mistake, as much as I like National Harbor. Miller, after helping to force a special session of the General Assembly in August to take up the gambling issue, says he won’t be closely watching the rest of the process.

PGC Blog says something in the water ain’t clean. Sounds like there is an impending lawsuit that hasn’t surfaced yet. The article does go on to quote Miller as saying, ““We have to be very careful what we say, because it’s going to wind up in litigation no matter what,” Miller said. “This is a money bill, it’s a money issue and if somebody spends $50 million to block it, the facility, they’re not going to give up at this point in time.” And let us not forget that it was Miller’s family member William E. Miller that built Rosecroft Raceway.

But we’ll let the commission make the decision and move forward.” The state Video Lottery Facility Location Commission meets Thursday afternoon in Annapolis to discuss the request for proposals for the future Prince George’s casino. The perception of National Harbor as the front-runner to win that bid caused Penn National Gaming Inc., owner of Rosecroft, to spend $44 million fighting the expansion of gambling in Maryland, which voters approved on Election Day.
