A 50-year-old man who was hit by a lorry in which a group of people were traveling to a relative’s house in Embilipitiya for the New Year was found dead in a paddy field, after the people in the lorry had abandoned him there after promising to take him to the hospital.
This accident happened on Wednesday night at Kadawatha and the injured person had been taken in the lorry while telling onlookers that he will admitted to the Ragama hospital. But his body had been found in a paddy field near the Ragama Meenkenda Temple the next day.
The deceased is a 50-year-old resident of Kadawatha Imbulgoda. He had been heavily drunk at the time of the accident. The driver of the lorry was identified and arrested and it was revealed that he too had been drunk at the time of the accident according to medical tests.
He and his wife had been traveling to Embilipitiya. The police are also investigating to arrest his wife who is currently in hiding.
