An accused who found guilty for possessing and peddling 2.53 grams of heroin in 2014, was yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.
Furthermore, a fine of Rs.35,000 imposed against the accused by Colombo High Court.
Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe observed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubts against the accused.
Considering the evidence that transpired during the trial, the Colombo High Court Judge sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The Attorney General filed an indictment against the accused comprising 2 charges for possessing and trafficking of 2.53 grams of heroin. The accused was arrested with heroin by the Western Province Anti Corruption unit during a raid carried out in 75 watta in Thotalanga area on March 17 in 2014.
