An individual who had been severely beaten following the tense situation at Galle Face on May 9 reported dead while receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo on May 16, police said.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the victim had been beaten on the pavement near Perahera Mawatha and had been admitted to the Ragama hospital by a group of journalists. Later, he was transferred to the National Hospital, Colombo for further treatment where he succumbed.
The deceased is a 47-year-old resident of Galahitiyawa, Kuliyapitiya.
The post mortem revealed the suspect had died due to the multiple injuries on his head and the chest. Kollupitiya police are investigating.
