Malt ‘N’ Jazz Evenings at The Good Wife, BKC, Mumbai

A well-rounded scotch truly arouses interest; and for die-hard aficionados, nothing is finer than single malt. Now couple that with some jazz - hits a very charming note, right? Let's add some ambrosial delights on a plate - and that is all one needs to set the ball rolling for a wonderful evening at The Good Wife, the curiously named gastropub at Bandra Kurla Complex. The entire combination of exquisite malts, appetizing food and soulful jazz music truly hits a spot.

This is exactly what one can look forward to at the 'Malt 'N' Jazz' Evenings which are held every Thursday at The Good Wife, BKC.

If one is looking for a relaxed evening but one which has style in it, I'd easily recommend The Good Wife. The décor exudes an air of luxury with leather sofas and smooth aesthetic ceiling and walls. It could match up in terms of vibes with any upmarket restaurant in the world - genteel but with a buzz of good cheer in it.

Talking of the single malt which are part of the 'Malt 'N' Jazz' Evenings menu, one finds names such as Glenkinchie, Singleton, Talisker, Clynelish, Oban, Cragganmore, Caol Ila, Dalwhinnie among many others tempting the senses - quite a journey through Scottish highlands on different malt trails if one comes to think about it. One would have Nicholas Ord from Diageo as one's trail guide.

What I found most interesting is the tastefully paired exclusively curated menu to enhance the palate as one lets the Single Malt sink in. One associates paired menu with wines, this single malt pairing was a first for me. Each pairing complements each other beautifully and that is something to be experienced! The herbal, pot-pourri and toasted lemon notes of the typically Lowland Glenkinchie Malt bond well with the tomato-jalapeno salsa, melted cheese and garlic-served Smoked Scarmoza Tostadas whereas the Asian flavours of Thai chilli, basil, ginger and lemongrass in the Thai Prawn Kataifi perfectly complement the buttery toasted nut and citrus cheesecake palate of the Singleton of Glen Ord. Similarly, Talisker's rich maritime peat-smoke and seaside salt requires an equally powerful flavour to match - the Truffle in the Truffle Parmesan Fries here provides the boldness needed for this interesting flavour combination. Clynelish 14 Highland has a creamy, flowery palate that needs an equally light touch which it gets from the Asparagus & Emmental Filo Roll. The asparagus has an earthy, lightly salted flavour which works well and the filo pastry dissolves wonderfully in the Whisky. Other Appetizer Options included the Mushroom Coriander Pesto, Tamarind Cottage Cheese, Chicken Gyoza & the Jerk spiced chicken. Impressive!
This single malt menu comes for the wonderful price of INR 1800 (plus taxes) for a paired experience of four malts - one can always upgrade by paying a wee bit more.

The Good Wife is a venture promoted by the Ryan & Keenan Tham, the owner hosts of Trilogy & KOKO. Being in the heart of BKC, The Good Wife sees a fine mix of people during the day as well as night - it is definitely a lovely place to catch up with colleagues over a few drinks, hold informal meetings with clients, or just unwind with friends at the bar.
