building a website the right way

Today we’ve going to look at some of the most common website mistakes people continue to make in 2020. We’ve reached a point in the digital age where everyone understands the importance of having a website, but that still means multiple errors are made. So, strap yourself in and see the mistakes you need to avoid making:

Not checking SEO trends

In truth, there could be a whole article on SEO mistakes people make all the time. Search engine optimization is a complex thing to grasp, but the biggest issue is that it constantly changes. Things you did in 2019 or 2018 to improve your SEO may no longer work now. What’s more, old techniques may even be black hat techniques nowadays that result in serious penalties!

To get as much traffic as possible to your website, you need to follow the current SEO trends for 2020 and beyond. This ensures you stay updated and make alterations to your site that will definitely improve your ranking.

Having no cybersecurity

It’s shocking how many website owners are relaxed about cybersecurity. The threat from hackers is very real, and you need measures to protect your website from outside forces. Don’t assume that you’re protected just because your site is built on a platform like WordPress. You may have chosen a reputable web builder, but that won’t protect you. I read an article called Is your WordPress site at risk of being hacked? and it mentioned that around 70% of WordPress sites are vulnerable. So, you have to actually go out and get additional security even if your site is built on one of these well-known and trusted platforms.

Cybersecurity is key as it keeps all the data on your website safe. There’s a risk that sensitive information can be compromised if you’re hacked. Plus, your site will be down, which is not good for business.

Not updating your site

It’s well-known that you basically need a website in this day and age. However, one common mistake is to create a site and leave it as is. In reality, you need to keep updating your website on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean you make complete overhauls in the design, it just means you maybe change some of the information as required, add blog posts, and so on.

This actually links into the previous point about SEO as updating a website is a key ranking factor. If you avoid this, then your SEO will suffer, and you risk having a site that’s full of outdated information. Clearly, this makes your website useless to anyone that uses it as everything you’re talking about is no longer valid or your contact information isn’t correct, etc.

Making any of these mistakes can be problematic for your website. It may lead to a drop in traffic, which can cause problems for the health of your business – particularly if you make money directly via your site! The good news is that all of these mistakes are fixable if you act now.
