Do we learn more by working on a painting that comes easily, or the one we have to struggle with? I've been tackling the revision of this abstract painting for several days now, and I don't seem to have yet achieved my goal.
In my last step, I covered over most of the x's and o's in the background, so this time I painted over some of them in bright yellow, orange, and red to make them stand out. Then I drew black lines to outline some of the background and foreground shapes. I also used the black line for interest and texture.
I tried adding lime green lines as well, but these mostly fade into the background.
So what am I learning here? For one thing, when you take a painting as complex as this one was to start with, it's hard to "fix" it without dealing with all the complexity. This particular result has some nice effects, but does not make a cohesive whole.
That's my opinion. What's yours?
