When it comes to make up, there’s a lot to learn for me. But when I started thinking about it, there’s actually not all that much I really want to learn. I’ll never be the girl that wears heavy make up or spends an hour on her morning routine, and I’m really happy with my look as it is: very black eyeliner, quite a lot of mascara and a little bit of foundation when I really need it. Of course, there’s some good tips from the last make up files (here) that I’m definitely using, like applying my foundation with a brush and I’m going to look for eyebrow pencil next week, but I’m still staying away from colored eyeshadow and I think I’m staying away from blush as well, since I just can’t seem to get it right.
One thing that’s super important for my beauty routine though is getting my eyeliner right, and even after so many years, there’s only about 2 days a week that I really get it right by accident. Why? Because apparently there’s a way to apply eyeliner, a system, something that has made my eye routine so much easier.
Luckily I had the talented make up artist Meghan again to teach me the tricks to get my cat eye right.. Here it is!
Start at the outside of your eye. Which is something I never did, ever. But here’s why:
If you hold your eyeliner, or any other straight object against your eye from the outside of your eye to the end of your eyebrow, you’ll find the perfect angle for your line. It’s also a good way to prevent eyes from being asymmetric. If you make sure you follow this line, the eyeliner line will be the same for both eyes.
After that, you start at the end of the first line you drew and make a straight line down. Not sure if that makes sense but you can see it in steps pictured above. Just continue the line and color it in.
Then make another line from the inside of your eye to the point where you’ve already applied eyeliner, and color it in..
Et voila! That’s all there is to it. Ever since I’ve started following this system my eyeliner has been more or less (can’t do anything about shaky hands) perfect, and all I needed was a different way to apply it.
Do you have trouble getting your eyeliner right? Also: is there anything else you’d like Meghan to teach us about when it comes to make up? We’re open to suggestions!
Special thanks to Meghan Nguy for teaching me so many things I didn’t know.
