Make This: Coffee Jelly

Make This: Coffee JellyInstead of tossing your cold coffee, turn it into jelly with agar-agar. You can get agar-agar in sheets, shreds or powder. I went with powder since I find it easier to use.

  • 2 cups of coffee
  • 1 teaspoon agar-agar powder (a little less if you want a less firmer jelly)
  • Sugar to taste

Pour coffee into a pot, sprinkle the agar-agar on top, stir and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and let simmer for about 5 minutes until the agar-agar is fully dissolved. Sweeten to taste. Pour into a baking dish if you plan on making cubes or individual dishes/glasses.

In addition to being vegan, agar-agar sets at room temperature, so don't let it cool too much before pouring into the dish you are using. You can then speed up the setting process by putting it in the refrigerator.

Serve with condensed milk or whipped cream. Or just eat it plain.
