Make in India Smartphone Market Experienced Hike up to 17 Percent: IDC

Make in India Smartphone market has been rise up to 17 percent with 54.3 Million Units delivered in the third quarter of 2020 as per the report by International Data Corporation (IDC). Xiaomi ranks in top position whereas Samsung comes in the second position and Vivo holds the third position. The flagship smartphone market captured a strong growth of 91 percent YoY and Samsung, Apple, and OnePlus were the top manufacturers.


According to the new report from International Data Corporation (IDC), the e-retailers saw an all-time high 24 percent year-on-year growth (YoY), delivering 48 percent of the total of 54.3 million units. Due to Covid-19, Most people prefer to purchase a smartphone from online stores compared to offline stores. Still, offline channels also grew 11 percent YoY.

The report also said that the growth in online shopping may encourage tech companies to introduce aggressive pricing and sale offers during the festive season. As per the analysis, Xiaomi carries the first position by capturing 25 percent market share in the list of the most smartphones shipped in Q3 2020 with 13.5 million units whereas Samsung holds the second position with its 12.1 million smartphones shipped and getting 22.3 percent market share.


Vivo sold 9 million units and taking 16.7 percent market share, Realme with 8 million units and 14.7 percent market share, Oppo with 6.1 million units, and 11.3 percent market share. Lastly, All the other brands have a 10 percent market share and shipped about 5.6 million smartphone units. IDC also said that this progress in smartphone shipments in India is observed due to the limited restrictions after the lockdown. The huge sales and discounts on smartphones also encouraged people to shop online.


Moreover, About a million 5G smartphone units were shipped in the third quarter of the year. Coming to the pricing, the average selling price (ASP) decreased by 2 percent YoY with 84 percent of shipments in the sub $200 (roughly Rs. 14,800) range. Only, The feature phones saw a decline of 30 percent YoY in Q3 2020 with 25 million units shipped.
