Yesterday I made a Yule vase arrangement using things I’d collected from the garden. I used bare twigs and small pieces of Fir and Spruce branches, I applied gold artist paint (from my craft box) to the twigs using a brush then rolled the twigs in glitter before the paint dried. I gave the cones a touch of sparkle too by painting the edges of the cones with PVA glue and sprinkling with glitter (all from my craft box). Make sure you cover your work surface with lots of newspaper for the glittering, otherwise you’ll be cleaning it up for weeks.
This Yule arrangement was very simple to do and best of all it was free!
The Fir, Pine and Spruce trees in our garden were planted many years ago by the previous owners, starting off as potted Christmas trees. Now they are huge specimen trees with interesting foliage and fruit (cones). They provide privacy in the garden, screen the Koi pond, create shade for our chickens and are home to many different species of wildlife.
My arrangement is pretty simple (themed to go with other decorations in our dining room), experiment by arranging greenery and berries from the garden and perhaps try other color schemes. There are many things that can be used such as dried flowers / fruit, seed heads, sections of evergreen shrubs, old favourites holly and ivy, twigs, ribbon, twine and raffia. Use glitter, artist paint or spray paint to add a touch of festive sparkle. Go foraging for things to use or ask a friend or neighbor.
