Make a fun Halloween flower arrangement
With Halloween not too far away, many people are already planning how they will decorate their home. Ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins, and bats are some of the most popular decorative items at this time of year but let's not forget flowers! Flowers might seem like a harmless form of décor but they can most certainly help underline the Halloween theme if done right!
You will need:- One pumpkin
- Flowers (sunflowers, proteas, etc)
- Cooking spray
- Glue gun
- Floral foam with liner
- Foliage and branches
- Cut the top of the pumpkin off and set it aside for use later.
- You can add wood picks to this top portion of the pumpkin to help hold it in place when you refit it to the top of your pumpkin. Use glue to anchor these wood picks in place.
- Scoop out enough pumpkin to make enough space for your flower stems.
- Apply cooking spray inside the pumpkin to coat it and helps keep your pumpkin fresher for longer.
- Press lined foam into the pumpkin and make sure it fills the pumpkin and slightly protrudes from the top.
- Anchor the pumpkin lid into the foam and do so at an angle so it's slightly tilted forward and leaves at least half of your floral roam uncovered.
- Dried or artificial flowers work best for this arrangement. If you want to use fresh flowers, you will need to make sure that you soak the floral foam before inserting it into the pumpkin.
- Start by adding your largest flowers (like the proteas) into the foam. You should either use one or three since they are large. Space them out.
- Add foliage in betwee. Wheat is a great and make sure that you turn your pumpkin as you go so that your arrangement has a full result.
- Add some pin cushion proteas or similar looking filler flowers. Allow some of your stems to stand taller than the rest.
- Finish off with a few sunflowers here and there. These flowers will help brighten up the arrangement and bring everything together.
- Add a branch or two. You can spray your branch with black paint if you like. The branches should be the tallest element of your arrangement.
- Double check your arrangement and make sure there are no empty spaces.
- Now for the glue gun, apply a few blobs of glue to a leftover piece of foam and then press another piece against it while hot. Pull them apar while hot to make strings. Drape these glue strings over the flower arrangement. Repeat a few times in several directions for the perfect finishing touch.
- Place your pumpkin on a plate or tray to prevent any damage to your table or tablecloth.
