Make a Difference for a Teacher Near You

By Pjfaur @peterfaur

Make a difference for a teacher near youIt’s not an easy thing to be a teacher these days. They’re pressured on all sides by parents, administrators, school boards and children. They often fail to get support from parents, who are so busy trying to make a living that they can’t take time to get involved in their children’s education.

And there’s another problem, one you can help address. Resources for education basics, like art supplies, paper, games, puzzles and even textbooks, are drying up. Dedicated teachers are taking money from their own pockets to try to help make these things available in their classrooms, but let’s face it, they don’t make enough to foot the bills themselves. Nor should they have to or be expected to.

This is where you can come in. Check out the website DonorsChoose.org. You’ll be able to find a teacher in your community who is asking for your help.

If you go to this page, you can plug in your state and city and find teachers asking for help with worthwhile projects. The site will help set priorities for such criteria as high poverty areas or projects that need just a little more help to be fully funded.

If you’re a believer in education, here’s a meaningful way to become involved. Check it out, and let me know if you decide to donate to a project.
