Majority of the MPs do not like to dissolve Parliament in six months and go for a General Election, nominated candidate for the post of Presidency, National People’s Power MP Anura Dissanayake said yesterday (19).

Speaking to media outside the Chamber, MP Dissanayake stated that he shares the aspirations of the protesters and the public and said if he gets elected as the new President he will bring all culprits responsible for the present economic crisis to book.

Dissanayake said, “We have proposed an interim plan for six months. The first move in that action plan is to form a government. Then we shall appoint a Cabinet consisting ministers not more than 10. All privileges other than the basic salary given to MPs shall be removed as well.

“We have always held the opinion that the Executive Presidency should be abolished. Since it is not possible to abolish presidency within six months, we will bring necessary provisions to curtail the powers of the executive and center the power back at the legislative.”

“Then we will take necessary steps to stabilize the public life which is drastically effected by fuel, gas and other such shortages. This parliament does not represent people’s real aspirations.

Thus we will hold a parliamentary election so that the true public opinion be displayed. Especially, we will take measures to recall cases related to numerous corruptions that in a way have caused this major economic crisis in the country including the ones withdrawn by the Attorney General’s Department.

We will take measures to take back the stolen public money and bring justice to people. Majority in the House don’t like to dissolve parliament within six months and go for an election. Other two candidates only speak about their interim plan.

They are open about when people would get a chance to express their new mandate. These candidates don’t talk about bringing corrupt politicians to justice because they want the support of these very persons. We all know the reality of the parliament. I represent the opinion and aspirations of the public.” Dissanayake added.
