Magnificent Colours Of Madeira

Ponta do Garajau

Choosing a set of pictures to show the colours of Madeira would be a lot easier if there were fewer than 1,150+ files downloaded from the camera. It’s a subtropical archipelago with enough sun in December to cause a sunburn (ask the Germans who forgot sunscreen), abundant with bright flora, mineral-rich soil, banana plantations, and the aquamarine shades of the sea. How to choose? I did a quick first-round pick from various spots in Madeira and Porto Santo, and randomly chose 11 photos for this post.

We only arrived back this morning from Madeira, so it’s been a full day: straight from the airport to the in-laws’ for lunch, a stop at home to drop off stuff and squeeze in a little nap before volunteering, fetching Ice the Dog from his holiday hotel, then home again to settle back into a routine for a couple of weeks until the next trip. Since our next destination isn’t nearly as warm, I’ll keep the subtropical memories of Madeira alive with more of these colourful posts over the winter.

Meanwhile, there’s the Madeira album in Flickr.
