Magistrate Visits Shooter ‘Buru Muna’

Nugegoda Magistrate Thanuja Jayasinghe yesterday arrived at Mirihana Headquarters Police to inspect Ravindu Warna Rangana alias Buru Muna, who was arrested in connection with the killing of the Hanwella restaurant owner. The suspect is identified as the shooter in several murder cases and is being held in a special cell of the Mirihana Headquarters Police under the Prevention of Terrorism Act by the Western Province Southern Crime Division.

This suspect was arrested by Immigration officials and handed over to the Katunayake Airport Police when he arrived in Dubai under a false name on February 24. He escaped from police custody and the police arrested him on March 17 in Avissawella area. and handed over him to the Western Province Southern Crime Division.

According to the information revealed during the long interrogation, the police found 650 grams of high-powered explosives of the C4 type hidden in the Hanwella, Wanahagoda area.

The suspect has been detained for a period of three months under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for further questioning.

The magistrate observed the Mirihana headquarters police to ascertain matters such as whether the suspect has enough protection, ventilation in the holding cell, sanitary facilities, food provided properly and the close relatives have been allowed to visit him.

This criminal has been operating under the direction of Kannangarage Lalith Kannangara, who is hiding in Dubai and leading drug trafficking and organized crime in the country. Mirihana Police Chief Inspector Thushara Manjula, IP Sumith Jayasinghe, Officer-in-charge of Western Province Southern Crime Division, IP Hemantha Kumara and Officer-in-charge of Case Operations Division Sub Inspector Shantha Lakshman were present during the magistrate’s visit.
