Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday rejected a request made by the Kollupitiya Police to remove the group protesting outside Temple Trees in Colombo.
The Police informed the Magistrate that a group of protesters were engaged in a demonstration inconveniencing the free movment of the public.
However, the Magistrate denied the request and said that the Police had the power to take action against the protesters if they acted in a manner that caused a public nuisance.
The Additional Magistrate also pointed out that he cannot issue orders without naming specific protesters,
The Kollupitiya Police also informed Court that protesters were present opposite Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green engaged in anti-government protests, severely inconveniencing the public and blocking the pavement.
