I mentioned before that I only have a few shocking red lipsticks in my stash, so when I saw this MAC Viva Glam Rihanna lipstick on Gem’s blog sale I knew I have to get it! But did this red lipstick live up to my expectations? Find out in this product review, plus see photos and swatches below! I also swatched it side by side with another red lipstick, MAC Ruby Woo, so you can compare the difference.
The metallic red and velvety packaging added some luxurious vibe. But the downside is that it can also be a dust magnet. You can see Rihanna’s signature once you open the tube. I don’t know but for some reason I thought the signature was “carved” on the bullet itself. I think it would be cooler that way!
Anyway, let us move on to the swatches.
Viva Glam Rihanna is labeled as “frost” so it gives off a luscious sheen. It has microglitters that are almost invisible to the naked eye. I swatched it beside MAC Ruby Woo (matte) to see if they have the same redness. Ruby Woo is more vibrant and pigmented.
When applied on the lips, Viva Glam Rihanna turns out a bit red-orange on me, not the intense solid red I expected. I believe the natural lip color can be a big factor on this.
Here I am wearing Viva Glam Rihanna…
Overall, I like how hydrating and easy to swipe this lipstick is, compared to a matte finish (like Ruby Woo). However, since this has a frost finish, the color easily transfers to the mug whenever I drink. I get a good 3-4 hours wear before I needed to reapply. This kind of bright red shiny lipstick may not appeal to many and it may take a little getting used to before one can be comfortable wearing it. But hey, life is too short so go ahead and experiment with colors that are out of your comfort zone!
