Luke Grimes (James) has left True Blood. TV Line broke the story with an exclusive report posted yesterday. The exit comes as a surprise given that True Blood will not begin filming its 7th and final season until January 2014. And that Grimes was a series regular. HBO did make a statement about the status of James and the reason for the sudden departure:
“The role of James is being recast due to the creative direction of the character.”
TV Line’s report however goes on to say that Grimes joined the show initially to work with Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica Hamby), whom he worked with on another project. But sources close to the actor told TV Line that he asked to be let out of his contract because he was unhappy with the direction James was being taken in the scripts he had read for season 7.
Grimes recently joined the 50 Shades of Gray movie as the brother of Christian Gray.
We will report who will take over James for season 7 as soon as we have that information.
