The Hollywood power couple, Mara Akil and husband Salim Akil, sit down with Oprah to share their hopes for their upcoming series “Love Is” on the network.
The Akils, created and executive produced the show that is inspired by their personal life. The couple have been married since 1999, and have collaborated on some of our favorite shows, like Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane, and the CW’s Black Lightning.

Oprah jumped right in and asked the Akils when did they know they were ready to share their story with the world.
“I knew when she told me she was ready to do the show, because she’s the boss,” Salim shares to laughter.
“When he walks in the room, I am lit!”
Mara goes on to share that in romantic comedy’s we know the girl gets the guy and the guy gets the girl. We’re never told how to do the rest of it. How do we live? How do we build? Mara is inspired to answer that question with “Love Is”
Love Is premieres June 19th on OWN.
