Loosening Up a Tight Composition in New Abstract Painting

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

I continued working on a new abstract painting which has an underlying grid pattern, looking for ways to loosen up the structure. I began by painting over some areas with paint mixed with a gloss medium so that part of the underpainting continued to show through.  The colors I used were light tan, vivid red orange, and cadmium red deep.

I painted quickly, covering blocks or areas loosely.  Then I drew lines with cadmium red deep, creating playful shapes and textures.
