I am a Rom-Com lover, but sometimes I prefer watching shows or movies from other genres like thriller and horror.
Recently ZEE5 has released a new thriller, mystery web series and after reading the synopsis, we couldn’t wait to watch any longer. Hence, this weekend we binged watched it.
The series is so intriguing that it will keep you hooked on your screen. So, if you love watching thriller genres, then read on to know about this series and why it is binge-worthy.
“Mafia” on ZEE5: 8 episodes (Each episode approximately 30min)
Mafia is a ZEE5 Original psychological thriller web series starring Ishaa Saha, Ridhima Ghosh, Madhurima Roy, Ankita Chakraborty, and Namit Das in pivotal roles.
Six college friends reunite after 6 years for a bachelorette party in the jungles of Madhupur in a friend‘s farmhouse, wherein they had gone when their college was finished. The friends embark on a round of the Mafia game again this time and are ready to defend, survive and deceit others to hide the real Mafia. However, as they start this reunion journey, their shared past comes tumbling along with it and the idyllic trip, which they thought will bond them, rake up their horrendous past and hidden agendas which they never shared.
In this game of betrayal, Mafia punishes the wrongdoers and turns it into a nightmare for the friends. But will the Mafia get exposed? And what traumatic experience they share?

‘Mafia’ is based in Bengal with mostly Bengali star cast and productions. Therefore, the web series is also available in the Bengali language.
The plot is gripping and the story is based around the Mafia game which is unique and makes the series enticing. Also, the entire series is based on one night.
It’s been 6 years, the college group of six friends with different personalities and backgrounds; decide to meet again at the same farmhouse in Madhupur, where they had been 6 years ago to ignite their lost friendship. As each one of them begins their journey, unfold memories of the past start showing which slowly reveals their betrayal, distrust, and backstabbing.
They start to play their old favorite ‘Mafia’ game and then suddenly an unknown person (Nitin) asks for help played by Namit Das. Suddenly eerie things start which makes six friends suspect Nitin, but soon they realize that maybe someone other is doing this. Each one of them tries to solve the mystery which is happening and in an attempt to fathom the situation, they start having a dispute and reveal the dark, untold truth they had hidden 6 years ago, which also shows how superficial their friendship is and how much hatred they have in their heart.
With each episode, this thriller, psychological series will keep the viewers on the edge of the seat because what you may assume the story will further go turns out to be something else.
The climax is worth watching and thrilling.

1) Unraveling mystery: This series is loaded with unraveling mystery that will keep you hooked. The storyline is based on a refreshingly unique game.
2) Stellar cast: Thanks to ZEE5 who gave these budding and exceptional actors to showcase their talent. Each one of them was too good to be true and was quite convincing.
3) Visual delight: Madhupur, the jungle was a visual delight and made me want to visit this natural beauty.
4) Climax: Yes, the climax is the highlight of this series as it reveals the ‘Mafia’ of this game.
What I didn’t like about this series:
- Explicit language: It was quite often used which we felt could have been avoided. They should have restricted it to a certain extent.
- Friendship: Most of the time, only betrayal and hatred among them were shown, so at some point, it felt like they were ever true friends. Also, the director should have shown some fond memories of their friendship which was missing.
Final Thoughts
“Mafia” on ZEE5 is worth the watch because of its intriguing storyline and mystery. It is a short series with each episode of approximately 30mins and you can easily binge-watch.
‘Mafia’ series will make you embroiled in a gruesome mind game from ‘whodunnit’ to ‘whydunnit’. The series had me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning.
