Longlegs (2024) Review

FBI Agent Lee Harker is very gifted and a new recruit who is about to be assigned to an unsolved and ongoing case of a serial killer, named Longlegs. Can she explore the past before its too late?

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The opening scene was to set the tone of the film with the creepy nature, change in camera angles and the use of old camera styles. A young girl outside her house drain to someone or something, I guess he can be an inbetween of that!

Moving on from that scene we are then thrown into the investigation as another family have been murdered with a potential suicide along with it all, mainly looking as though the father had done it. As Lee works with Agent Carter, she must bring all of the facts from the different years and family deaths. Picking up on some interesting links and connections mainly in relation to the birthday of the daughter in the family, establishing a pattern was key to working out not only who Longlegs is but how he was doing it without actually being in the house.

Obviously given the nature of the twists and turns in this style of a film I am not going to post any spoilers of the plot. I did think that certain things were really obvious and easy to guess if you were paying full attention, a couple of moments are thrown in with an attempt to make the audience jump. The waiting game to fully see Longlegs was genius really as it did create dramatic tension and quite frankly I still cannot accept that it was Nicolas Cage.

Following on from that, let’s praise his performance as it really is on another level. Haunting in some ways it has to be said, along with that Maika Monroe was very impressive in the leading role offering some impressive scenes. In terms of supporting roles Blair Underwood and Alicia Watt were very good.

Overall though for me this just fell short and off the mark, mainly because I had seen it was disturbing and one of the most terrifying films in years and I didn’t actually feel it hit anywhere near that. I will admit though that I did hit some anixiety levels before it even started, but the subject matter it goes into just isn’t something that bothers me so I guess it will depend on your personal beliefs. Some scenes are mildly shocking but not on the level I was expecting.
