London is home to the U.K’s first atheist church. The Nave in St Paul’s Road, Canonbury – a deconsecrated Church – opened its doors for its first Sunday Assembly meeting on the 6th January.
The church is the brainchild of stand-up comedians Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans.
“We thought it would be a shame not to enjoy the good stuff about religion, like the sense of community, just because of a theological disagreement,” said Jones.
The church has provoked angry reaction from Christians and atheists alike, which led Mr Jones to Tweet: “The sign that Sunday Assembly is a good idea? I’m getting criticism from atheists and the religious.”
Catch up with the tale of Britain’s First Atheist Church in the Islington Gazette and the Huffington Post.
