The Rising Tide
Underwater sculptor Jason Decaires Taylor gives us a group of figures on the Vauxhall foreshore revealed and concealed by our mighty River Thames…
London Spy 19:09:15: Our Saturday #London Review
It's a provoking and inspirational sight, throwing us back on the reasons why London stands where it does, the role that the Thames plays in shaping London, and our ongoing negotiations with the elements.

DC Editor Adam's been keeping an eye on shoes this week…
Shoe headline of the week:
Hottest Shoes You Can Buy Right Now For Under £250
Under £250?! The implication being that it's absolutely regular and sane behaviour to pay north of £250 as standard. What? Were they made from famous cows?
Anyhoo, the full story is at Marie Claire and I'll bet you £250 that NONE of 'em will see you through to the end of even ONE London Walk without the need to summon the paramedics. Full story here: www.marieclaire.co.uk
And while I was clicking around there, I found this…
London Spy 19:09:15: Our Saturday #London Review
What is it? It's a shoe. Sweet baby Jesus, it's a SHOE!

There. I feel better now. Nothing like a Saturday morning blog rant to blow off the cobwebs.
It's plain from my bewildered tone that I am clearly an old fart who knows nothing of women's shoes… either that or this piece is all an elaborate ruse to disguise the fact that, as I blog this, I'm wearing a pair of crimson, spike-heel Manolo Blahniks. You'll have to decide on that one for yourself.
So in the interest of balance I turned to this excellent piece from Observer, headlined 7 Pieces of Shoe Advice For Men From 434 Single Women.
"Unless your first date is at a nudist colony, women do not want to see your toes; they want your foot properly covered in a proper shoe."
Hoorah!
The piece is also pretty down on sneakers and disappointingly harsh on boots – although I did have to empathise with the anti-Cowboy boot school-of-thought. Gents, it was an education. Read the full piece at observer.com here: observer.com

Thanks to London Walker Bonnie Rose Bryan for the following email & photo…
My cousin (with his Chihuahua, Reginald,) and I took the Ghosts of the Old City tour last night, and we had a wonderful time!
This is our second London Walk (we took the Jack the Ripper tour, last year, with Shaughan, and absolutely loved it!).
On this tour, we really enjoyed the titbits of macabre history and local folklore. Adam is a captivating storyteller, and a personable walking host. I believe, sceptically, in ghosts, and my cousin absolutely does not, and yet we were both pleasantly surprised with how Adam gave multiple plausible explanations for the apparitions mentioned in the folktales. This tour was a perfect balance for believers, sceptics, and disbelievers alike. The time flew by!
I will, most definitely, recommend this tour to friends.
Thanks for a wonderful evening (and Reginald appreciates that he was welcome on the walk, as well!)
Bonnie Rose Bryan
