EVERY THURSDAY! Our round-up of our favorite London pubs on or near the routes of our London Walks. We’ll be posting reviews, giving recommendations and directions and from time-to-time delving into the stories behind the pubs and pub names. As always, we want to hear your suggestions, too. Character takes time. And the Green Man has been sufficiently patient to end up being positively eccentric. London Pub Of The Week No.9: The Green Man, Riding House Street
It was always one of central London’s oddest little pubs, not least because it is tucked away in a Fitzrovian backstreet, “hidden” in the heart of W1. The presence of such events as comedy nights, film nights and meetings of The London Air Accordion Society (!) adds further layers to the picture.
At a certain time of night, when the local office drones have drained away down the Tube like so much dirty bathwater, it is a veritable pub paradise. Its trump card these days is cider – no less than nine types on draft. And we haven’t event started on the regiment of bottled stuff. Friendly, easy going staff, too, and pretty good food.
