Lockheed YC-141B Starlifter

@ Marietta, GA

November 2021

On a recent trip to Georgia, I visited the Aviation History & Technology Center in Marietta which is located right next door to the Lockheed Martin plant. The centerpiece of the collection is their C-141 which was delivered in 1967 as an “A” model. After eight years of Air Force service, the Starlifter returned to the Lockheed plant for upgrading. On January 8, 1977, after more than a year of modifications including 23 feet additional length and an in-flight refueling system, she emerged as the prototype of the C-141B. After retirement from active duty she came back to Lockheed in 1993 and was later donated to the museum by Lockheed. First flown in 1963, 285 Starlifters were produced. The last C-141s were retired in 2006, being replaced by the C-17 Globemaster III. Fuji X-Pro2 w/18-135mm.
