Lockheed SP-2H Neptune

@ Kaneohe, HI

August 2022

A Neptune on gate guard duty at Marine Corp Base Hawaii in Kaneohe. Emblem on the tail indicates that this Neptune is a tribute to the sub hunter aircraft that operated from Naval Air Station Barbers Point from 1942-1999. First flown in 1945, close to 1,200 Neptunes were produced for the US Navy, Japan, Canada and Australia. The Lockheed SP-2H (P2V-7) was the last and most sophisticated derivative of the Neptune built for the US Navy. The SP-2H saw combat service during the Vietnam War, and some were used to drop electronic sensors along enemy truck routes. This example was retired in 1978 and later sold and converted for firefighting duties in 1991. Fuji X-Pro2 w/18-135mm.
