Right outside the West Gate of the fabled Edwards AFB is a display of aircraft called the Century Circle, aircraft that were tested here.  The F-104 was also the first aircraft to achieve sustained Mach 2 flight. While the USAF only purchased 296 F-104s, over 2,000 F-104s were sold overseas, serving as late as 2004.  This Starfighter was the chase plane for the very first Lockheed SR-71 flight in 1964.  The aircraft was acquired by the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum in 1985 and restored in 2006.  In the background is the old AFFTC air traffic control tower cab.  Nikon D500 w/18-200mm.
