A forlorn row of C-5 Galaxy transports at the Davis-Monthan AFB 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group “boneyard”. The AMARG takes care of nearly 4,000 aircraft, which makes it the largest aircraft storage and preservation facility in the world. Once the largest aircraft in the world, the USAF has operated the C-5 since 1969 in operations all over the world. Of the 131 aircraft delivered, 81 were the early A- models of which 57 found their way to this desert home. The current model C-5M Super Galaxy is an upgraded version with new engines and modernized avionics designed to extend its service life beyond 2040. Nikon D500 w/18-200mm.
