This weathered Lockheed L-1649A Super Constellation Starliner sits on display at the Fantasy of Flight museum, outside of Orlando. She is thought to be one of four remaining in the world, of 44 built. The Super Connie was the last model of the Lockheed Constellation line of airliners built at Lockheed’s Burbank, CA plant from 1956 to 1958. This example was originally delivered to Lufthansa Airlines in 1957 who operated it until 1966 when the Starliner began a lengthy chain of ownership changes. At one point it was for sale in August 1977 for only $14,000. After the third restoration, the Connie was flown in to Fantasy of Flight in 2001 and has been there ever since. This aircraft was recently moved from this location as part of museum expansion plans, hopefully a fourth restoration is planned.
