Lockheed F-104G Starfighter

@ Palm Springs, CA

June 2022

This was taken during my first visit to the Palm Springs Air Museum.  This facility has several exhibition galleries with over 50 aircraft on display.  Lockheed produced 1,122 of the G-version Starfighters as multi-role fighter-bombers with beefier structure, more fuel capacity and improved combat maneuvering.  This example was license-built by Fokker for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (KLu). The Starfighter entered service with the KLu in 1962 and were retired in 1984. Joining the PSAM collection in 2014, this F-104 now wears the livery of a Starfighter lost in action over Vietnam in 1966.
