Lockheed C-130T Hercules- Blue Angels

@ Kaneohe, HI

October 2007

The Blue Angels beloved support aircraft “Fat Albert” executes a jet-assisted take-off (JATO) demonstration for a flight performance at the Blues on the Bay Airshow in Hawaii. Each of the eight JATO bottles generate 1,000 lbs of thrust on ignition, allowing Fat Albert to takeoff in a remarkably short distance. Delivered in 1992, this current airframe (164763) had been with the team since 2002, and was the last C-130 to conduct a jet-assisted take-off (JATO) in 2009. In May 2019, after 17 years serving with the Blue Angels, “Fat Albert” was retired from flight status. The Blue Angels started using the C-130 in 1970, which was quickly named after the popular cartoon character. “Fat Albert” did not start wearing the Blues color scheme until their third C-130 in 1974.
