Just before Christmas I showed you a little sneak peak of my rather drastic hair cut - just a few instagram snaps of my new barnet. Now you may know that I had rather long hair before (see this selfie and this snap of my locks just a week or so before the chop) so although this may not seem that short, it was a big change for me!
I made an appointment to see James in the Farnham branch of Headmasters(*) who has cut my hair before, and is the manager of the branch - I was in good hands. I took a few pictures along with me (my Pinterest album, actually!) to show him exactly what I wanted, and he just got it. After a rather lovely hair wash and head massage, he got chopping. Much to my relief he didn't just hack off a ponytail, but snipped away carefully bit by bit. We talked about how I wanted something quite blunt and slightly longer at the front than back, which he achieved perfectly. I also wanted to do away with my side parting and fringe, so have gone for something slightly more central and he cut my fringe so it can be worn wherever.
The one thing that annoys me about getting my hair styled is when they do something I just would never be able to recreate myself - James was great at talking me through everything he was doing and how I can create it at home. He wanted to style it in a way that was relaxed and not too 'styled', so rather than the standard salon blow dry he rough dried it and then tonged it with the Babyliss Curling Wand. This gave it a really cool, tonged look rather than a flicky middle aged feel which could easily happen with this length hair. In an attempt to recreate the look myself I popped along to Boots and picked up the curling wand for under £20, bargain! These pictures are how I have styled it myself using a mixture of the curling wand and my straighteners and think I've done a pretty good job! It's definitely a style that requires a bit of wave which might take a bit more time than my old blow-and-go hairdo, but its so much easier now its half the length. Overall I am so happy with my new hair! I wanted more of a style which this definitely is, and I think makes me look much more my age. Yes, I'm 26 to many people's shock! James and I discussed that when I'm due for a trim we could take it a bit shorter, which I am definitely open to. My hair is super thick, so I was worried I might end up looking like a mushroom... but I think I'm ok! A big thank you to Headmasters for once again treating me to such a great experience and the perfect result.
