Linktree, a bio-linking platform, is the latest to reveal intentions to incorporate NFTs into its platform, unveiling a suite of new features that would allow artists to advertise their NFTs and “build a community around ownership.” According to the company, creators will have new ways to monetize their work and build a digital identity. The new features were developed in partnership with OpenSea, an NFT marketplace.
Users may now use the company’s new “NFT Gallery” link capability to display their NFTs on their Linktree. Creators may add the URL of an OpenSea collection to generate a preview, and they can connect their Metamask wallets to prove ownership. Authors may now connect their Metamask wallets and choose up to six NFTs to display on their Linktree. By visiting OpenSea, the available NFTs may then be seen and bought.
Creators may use their NFTs as profile photographs or backgrounds on Linktree after linking their wallets. As with Twitter’s NFT profile images, verified NFTs will be placed in a hexagonal frame as profile shots. For backdrops, a verification badge will show at the bottom of the creator’s Linktree. After then, users may go to Linktree to learn more about the NFT. The company claims to be leveraging OpenSea and Metamask to power verification.
Linktree is also introducing a new NFT lock feature, which allows writers to secure their connections using a smart contract address. Only users who hold NFTs from a certain collection will be able to unlock the connection by connecting their wallets. According to Linktree, this capability assists producers in simplifying benefit sharing.
“With this launch, Linktree is providing meaningful features to empower creators in the Web3 space,” Linktree CEO Alex Zaccaria told TechCrunch. “This adds value by extending the core utility of NFTs – verified ownership, monetization, and community. As the number of creators tapping into web3 grows, Linktree provides these creators the tools they need to display their NFTs anywhere they have their Linktree link and to provide exclusive incentives to their community.”
The introduction of the new features corresponds with the inclusion of NFTs on the platforms of several digital behemoths. Spotify said yesterday that it is testing a new feature that allows musicians to promote their NFTs on their profiles. Last week, Instagram said that it will begin testing NFTs with a select number of American producers.
Given these developments, it’s not surprising that Linktree wants to include NFTs into its platform. In March, Linktree obtained $110 million in all-equity capital, triggering today’s announcement. Following the fundraising round, Linktree was valued at $1.3 billion.
Linktree claims to have 1.2 billion monthly unique visitors and has assisted over 1 million artists in generating 90 million visits to streaming providers by 2021. Many celebrities, including Selena Gomez, the Los Angeles Clippers, HBO, and Shawn Mendes, use the site.
