Based on the F-8 Crusader, the Corsair II was developed as a replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk, with greater range and payload.  First fleet delivery was October 1966 with final retirement in May 1991.  This example is displayed here at the Louisiana Memorial Plaza, located on the bank of the Mississippi River. Dedicated in 1994, this plane was restored through the efforts of Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 488.  It bears the markings of VF-147 Argonauts, the first squadron to fly A-7s in Vietnam. This A-7E Corsair II was been designated as the State of Louisiana’s official memorial to its Vietnam War veterans.  Fuji X-E2s w/18-135mm.
