Origin

" Light of one's life" is an idiom that dates back as early as Ancient Greece. The phrase "light of my life" was first used in the play " Andromache," written by Euripides, where the main female lead refers to her son as such. The phrase was derived from " Eye of My Life" (the direct translation from Greek) and later became " light of my life" when translated to English. There are very popular lines that use this idiom, such as in the novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov:

"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta."
