Takeaways, posh toilet roll and paying for a car wash have been hailed as modern life’s little luxuries, a report revealed. Researchers found millions of Brits also rate simple, everyday things like a soak in the bath, watching a box set and buying flowers for yourself as a special, once in a while extravagance.
Buying a lottery ticket, shopping alone and adding cream to coffee rather than milk also made the list.
The study also found three quarters of the 2,000 adults who were polled said indulging in little luxuries helped cheer them up amid the current climate.
A spokesman for Müller de Luxe Corner who commissioned the study, said:
“There is a real appetite for an everyday moment of indulgence in the current climate, as shown by these findings.
“It doesn’t have to be something lavish and expensive; the things that make you smile can be relatively affordable and then allow for greater frequency, of which the resounding effects that can have to your sense of well-being are immeasurable.
“There’s a lot to be said for enjoying the pleasure of now.”
Other luxury items Brits like to treat themselves to were boxes of chocolates and a night in front of the TV.
The biggest spark for buying a luxury item was a hard day at work, with bad weather and a row with their partner also featuring highly.
Affordable items like new lipsticks and internet access were also deemed luxuries.
The spokesman for Müller de Luxe Corner added:
“What one person classes as a luxury may differ to another, but spoiling yourself every now and then is clearly still fundamental.’’
