Dear Garden
How are you at the moment? It's all a bit exciting at the moment as the digger has arrived and the skip and the lump hammer and the two men who are clearing the front and side of the garden before starting to create the new space. There will be lawn, there will be fences, there will be gates and of course: new space for plants. I have needed to get this done for so long so it is a joy to finally see progress.
There will of course be a proper write up at some point, obviously: proper before and after photos and the progress in between - anyone would think I wrote a blog!
I am feeling a bit fixated on the fact that we are now in Autumn, it seems to have arrived so quickly and really I am one of those people who lean towards Autumn officially starting at the Equinox, which is a good seven days away. The seasons however are rubbish at reading calendars and decide to start when they want to start and this year there has been less of a soft decline of Summer into Autumn and more of a drop.
On saying this, this weekend has been glorious, a bit chilly in the morning but lovely and sunny and perfect gardening weather. Goldilocks would be happy: not too cold, not to hot - just right. The soil is workable too: not to wet, not too dry - just right. I am sure that Goldilocks, once she had finished housebreaking and stealing porridge from bears, was fond of gardening too. Anyhoo, a good gardening weekend is a precious thing and has been quite rare this year so my dear garden I have been making the most of it.
Yesterday the lawn got mowed and there was weeding. I have let the willow-herb get a strong foothold haven't I? It is pretty and I am fairly sure every seed germinates. I am now removing a mix of mid-seed sowing plants and the new plants that are already growing. Of course as you remove the ones with their seed cases open the seeds merrily fly away laughing and singing. I am glad they are happy and the child-like part of me still enjoys seeing them. I whisper to myself 'fairies' and smile. A brief smile as I then think about the amount of weeding they will lead to but I quite like weeding really. I think I have said before that at least I can see where I have been: this is pleasing.
So, my dear garden, what is next I hear you ask? Well there will be a lot of front garden faffing - I predict solar lights and rose purchasing and, and, and....... I do love the excitement of a new project.
and yes I am casting an eye over the back garden. The large bramley needs pruning so I need to get that attended to. The pond also needs a good clear out: but you knew that already. So - lots to do and I am hoping that the weekend weather enables this. I have booked a week off work in early October to spend more time in the garden so let's hope the weather behaves itself. (I know, a big ask).
That's all for now, I will writ again soon.
