Food Vouchers Released for Sale and Pop-Up Market Line-Up Announced

SWG3, Finnieston – Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September

The countdown to the hotly anticipated Let’s Eat, Glasgow! food and drink fiesta begins in earnest as organisers Real Food, Real Folk release the restaurant food vouchers for sale and announce the irresistible food and drink in the Pop-Up Market promised by the West of Scotland’s most exciting and innovative artisan producers.

The festival of food is the first event staged by the new Real Food, Real Folk co-operative which brings together Glasgow’s most inspired and passionate chefs and eateries: Cail Bruich, The Cottonrake Bakery, The Crabshakk, The Gannet, Guys, Mother India, Ox and Finch, Stravaigin and the Ubiquitous Chip.

The not for profit co-operative has two core aims – to promote Glasgow’s increasingly lively and diverse food scene as one to rival the likes of New York, Tokyo, Barcelona and London and equally to help raise debate about, and help tackle, the poor nutrition and food awareness prevalent across some areas of the city.

Any funds raised through Let’s Eat Glasgow! will go into the Real Food, Real Folk co-operative’s community outreach programme which currently includes work with Spirit Aid, an initiative teaching schoolchildren how to cook at an afterschool club in the city.

Launching the progamme and opening food voucher sales, Colin Clydesdale, founder of Real Food Real Folk, said:

“The staggering sense of excitement and calls of ‘finally a great food event for Glasgow’ since we announced our plans just two months ago has proven that now, more than ever, is the time to take the growing appetite for great food to the street and kick start a movement for eating well across the city.

Let’s Eat Glasgow! will take everyone on a fabulous journey, from field to fork. As well as the restaurants and pop-up market, visitors will find livestock and an interactive theater with butchers and fishmongers preparing cuts and filets then cooked by guests chefs.

“Through this bumper programme, which also includes live entertainment and children’s activities, we want everyone to get excited about food, see, smell and taste great seasonal produce and leave with a better appreciation of the value of the fresh, food and drink available on their doorstep and ideas for cooking more healthy and creatively at home.

“As we anticipate big attendance on the day, we recommend people buy their £5 vouchers for our fantastic small plates in advance.”
