If you don’t daydream and kind of plan things out in your imagination, you never get there. So you have to start someplace.

Robert Duvall

As a writer, count me in as a daydreamer. I’m always imaging the perfect endings, the perfect words to say in reply to a situation. It’s sort of like that little kid in The Sixth Sense but instead of “seeing dead people,” I “hear stories.”

Like the stories of chickens who have taught me to be a better mama hen to my own flock.

Like the stories of two dogs who died in a matter of weeks leaving holes as great as the Grand Canyon in our hearts but who ended up teaching us that it *really* is better to have loved and lost.

And like the stories of overcoming adversity, a chicken born crippled who eventually overcame her disability, another who had horrible injuries that responded to care and healed, and those of a child, who, even with debilitating illness, volunteers to make dinner that evening.

There are joyful stories everywhere, you just need to be able to recognize them.

More snow in our area this weekend. Be safe, stay warm, and see you all next week.
