Lesson 826 – Chick-O-Saurus Rex – Book Review

By Wendythomas @wendyenthomas

As you know, if you like chickens, people tend to send you chicken things. A good friend of mine (hi Gina) recently dropped off a new children’s picture book on chickens for me to take a look at.

Chick-o-Saurus Rex by Lenore and Daniel Jennewein is the delightful picture book story of a little chicken who was not allowed into the farm animal club house because she was not brave enough. The chick, in talking to her father soon discovers that chickens are related to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Armed with this information, the little chick bravely fights off an intruder and is permitted into the farm animals’ club.

Complete with farm animal sounds, vibrant pictures, funny details (a family chicken photo album), and a good dose of bullies getting what they deserve, this is the type of book, you wouldn’t mind reading to your kids, over and over.

It’s a lovely story of something that everyone who owns chickens, already knew, or at the very least suspected.

Sometimes chickens look like dinosaurs, and there is only one reason for that.

Not only are birds and dinosaurs related, but according to the Chick-O-Saurus authors “Paleontologists have recently confirmed that the chicken is the Tyrannosaurus rex’s closest living relative. They did it by comparing trace amounts of collagen protein carefully extracted from an incredibly well preserved T.rex fossil with collagen protein from an ordinary chicken bone.”

But then as I said, some of us already knew this.
