Lesson 810 – Quotable Chicks

Friday’s Quotes for the Chicks

“Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.”
Albert Camus

This little guy pictured above tried to escape from the others this morning, (note that she is on *top* of the cage) a clear sign that we need to put them all in bigger digs. If it ever stops raining around here, we might even be able to get them outdoors so that they can feel the grass and eat some bugs once again.

This weekend, we’ll be working on integrating our juveniles (the marans) with the flock (slowly, slowly.) Once they’ve become full -fledged members (it will take as long as it needs) then we’ll move the babies out to the juvie cage to continue their many-stepped journey into the flock.

It’s always something, isn’t it?

There’s been some discussion based on a few of my posts. As a result, next week, I’ll write about:

  • Potato plants – poisonous for chickens or not? There’s been quite the background discussion on this one
  • Lyme disease – people have been asking me about the Lyme disease in our house – I’ll give a quick low-down and up-date
  • Charlie – just because I haven’t had a good Charlie post with photos in awhile

And speaking of Charlie, I’ve ordered my “Charlie bead” and made sure that Charlie’s mangled feet are symbolically shown in the bead. After all, it’s her inspiring story of overcoming and persevering (and eventually being released to the outside flock) that I want to be reminded of whenever I wear it.

As always, peaceful weekend everyone, health and happiness (and safety) to your flock.
