Friday’s Quotes for the Chicks
“Rain, rain, go away.”
It’s been raining on and off for the last week and while the cooler temperatures have been appreciated, the dampness has not. The hens in the coop, and I in my office, huddle against the constant drips. The girls are under their coats of feathered down, and I am under a polar fleece jacket that should have long ago been stored until next season’s snows arrive.
Tomorrow we have a graduation in the house, my son Trevor who graduates from high school, will be honored at a party where we’ll wish him well on his next adventure in the Army corps of cadets at Norwich.
Another one gets ready to leave the nest leaving me with a painful sense of gratitude – much like the achy bones I am grateful I am alive to feel. Life is a series of challenge after challenge. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, I constantly tell my kids, and eventually you’ll end up where you need to be.
Then on Sunday we’ll honor the main rooster of our flock, the one who has helped make it all possible. A local rib fest is in the plans for that one.
A weekend of celebration, reflection, and ribs so sticky that you’d be wise to bring your own private supply of wet-wipes.
