Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair…

Another weekend! Time is, indeed, flying quickly these days.

The above photo comes from a neighbor’s fence. It was so beautiful that I grabbed Addy as she got home from school and we walked down the street to take photos. As quickly as time is going these days, it’s important to take precious moments to appreciate beauty when you see it.

And speaking of beauty, this here is Granite.

She’s a Barred Rock from a friend of mine who is disbanding his flock due to his travel schedule. And while I’m sorry to see his hens go (you’re welcome to our eggs anytime, Stephan) we are beyond thrilled to have this lovely lady join our flock.

Right now Granite is in isolation. Even though I know she comes from a healthy flock, it’s not worth taking the chance of infecting our existing flock. In a few days, once I’m sure that there is no sneezing or illness, we’ll start the task of integrating Granite with the others.

Granite is the alpha of her flock and Zelda is the alpha of ours. Things could get pretty interesting.

And just for the record, my money is on Zelda, who stood at the edge of the coop last night, never, for one minute, taking her eyes off of Granite.

As always, peaceful weekend everyone, health and happiness (and safety) to your flock.
