Lesson 1252 – It’s a Baby Chick(s)!!!!

Big news in our household!

Remember when I put up this sign:

Because a family of House Finches had nested in this: (I know, I know, my bad for keeping up Holiday decorations well past the season)

The last two days, we haven’t really seen the mama or daddy bird near the nest. Prior to this one of them had always been sitting there. We were a little concerned, did they abandon the nest?

Yesterday I climbed a chair on our porch, positioned my phone over the nest and quickly took a photo. I was hoping to see if there were any eggs.

Much to my surprise, this is what I saw:

The reason mom and dad are not constantly at home is because they are out and about bringing home the bacon for their little ones to eat. And with 6 kids of my own, boy can I relate to that, my weekly planning the menu and shopping trip can take hours – but hey, it’s what you’ve got to do when you’re the parent and you’ve got mouths to feed.

So yes, we are the proud grand-mama-hen parents of (it looks like) 3 adorable little House Finch fluff-balls. From the photo it looks like our porch wall has been pecked and pooped on, but you know what? Who cares – we have babies in (on) the house again.
