Ten days ago we had a snow storm. This weekend, the weather was so nice we were able to spend time in the yard cleaning up from the winter and preparing to eat our meals outside once again.
Like a few others in town (I’ve seen you) we hadn’t taken down the Christmas wreath on our porch. (remember we are the family once that kept our Christmas tree up until March 24th because of a birthday wish.) I figured that as long as we were still getting snow, it could remain. Festive is festive.
This weekend we discovered why this may or may not be a good idea.
On Saturday we discovered this at the top of the nest.
We’ve had a lot of upheaval in the woods behind our house last week, the forest was thinned (which is the official word, but I like to use the term “overcut” in several places), wetlands were invaded, wildlife was displaced, do you think for one minute, with all that chaos that I would evict this young
family from our front porch?
Nope, not me. I’ve told the kids that for the next few weeks, we have to use the back porch door as much as possible and I put this sign on our front porch window.
My laziness at taking down the nest and the town’s mistakes in disrupting the wildlife are not this little bird’s fault. Rest easy mama bird and know that at the very least, we’ve got your back.
